Dutch family invests 1,3 million euros in the marine environment of the Balearics

A Dutch family decided to support the Posidonia project, protecting the Posidonia sea plant that, among other things, plays an important role in the purification of the crystal-clear water in the Balearics.
They donated 1,3 million euros and this first investment is only a start – the project is being supported by hotels in the Balearics and there are other international foundations that are prioritising the Posidonia.
Additionally, the marine biologist and economist Josep Aniol will keep on searching for more private investors, as 3 to 5 million euros per year will be needed to reach a high impact of preservation of the marine environment. But the amount invested by the Dutch is a really good start.

Save the Posidonia

The project has also been presented at Spain’s largest international tourism fair Fitur in Madrid, to explain the new edition of the program “Save the Posidonia”: a campaign to raise consciousness to preserve the protected sea plant.

The program's actions include, amongst other things, free kayak visits to the Posidonia meadows, responsibility of the hospitality sector working with sustainable fish providers, as well as several actions of small entrepreneurs such as the prestigious jewelers Elisa Pomar and Enric Majoral who are producing a jewelry collection inspired by this important Mediterranean sea plant.
