Ibiza City overlooks the sea and the Acropolis. The fortified part of Dalt Vila is integrated into the daily lives of its people, from breakfast to shopping, through to evening drinks, and is the setting of the great artistic, social and cultural events of the island.
This walled city of Ibiza, traditionally called Dalt Vila, is a monument to history. Traces of many cultures that have passed through the island can be found on layer after layer, from the first settlers of the bay of Ibiza, to Phoenicians, Carthaginians, Romans and Muslims, to the Catalan conquest led by Kingdom of Aragon in the thirteenth century. Its architecture, of great beauty and simplicity, has significantly influenced the colonial buildings of the New World.
The fortified city of Ibiza was declared in 1999 a World Heritage Site by Unesco. To celebrate this international recognition, the City of Ibiza organizes during the second weekend of every month of May a comprehensive program dedicated to culture and leisure. Among other events, the International Music Summit (IMS) is organized since 2008. This annual conference for dance music is of great importance to the industry and their culminating moment is the Grand Finale Festival which takes place in Dalt Vila. A unique and magical setting for dance music lovers.
